Sir Arthur Clarke 1917 - 2008
On March 18, 2008, Sir Arthur passed away in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, at the age of 90.
On April 2, 2005, the inaugural Sir Arthur Clarke Awards were presented at a black-tie dinner which closed the 2005 annual conference of the British Rocketry Oral History Programme (BROHP). The "Arthurs" are the space equivalent of the Oscars®, and like the Hollywood event, this was a glittering occasion, attended by many of the top names in the UK space community.
The BROHP Conference has been growing over the years and has now evolved into The UK Space Conference. You can find more details at www.ukspaceconference.org.
Selecting the winners is a two-part process. The final votes are cast by a secret ballot of the panel of judges, who draw up the short-lists, but it is the general public that submits the nominations for the awards.
